President's Message

Dear Nebraska ASHRAE Members,

Your ASHRAE committee members and elected board members are pushing full throttle to make this session as fun and informative as possible. We have a new goal to increase the number of our chapter and YEA social events.  We have three this month:

1. UNO Student ASHRAE Chapter Industry Panel—Thursday, October 1 at 5:30pm at The Peter Kiewit Institute, room 158. The chapter has invited a handful of industry professionals who work with building mechanical systems to speak to students about their careers and day-to-day work. A mixer will follow the Q&A session and will continue until approximately 7:30pm. All ASHRAE Members are invited to attend, please do your part in encouraging participation from your young co-workers that are new to the industry and interns. If you have any questions, please email Jim Butler at

2. Nebraska ASHRAE Trap shoot Scholarship Benefit—Wednesday, October 28 at the Papillion Gun Club starting at 1pm. Spots are filling up fast, please register your team and sponsorships as soon as possible. There will be an area for non-shooters to cheer teams on, have food and drink, and play some tailgate games.

3. YEA Monday Night Football—Monday, October 19th (Omaha) at DJ’s Dugout in Aksarben starting at 5:30pm.  Come watch the Giants battle the Eagles with us. It will be a great time for drinks, laughs and football!

Our program this month in Omaha will be ASHRAE Standard 188—Legionellosis: Risk Management for Building Water Systems. Not to be outdone, the Lincoln chapter will be hosting Octourfest (clever), a tour of the West O Prison central plant followed by happy hour at Red Fox.

I hope these initial meetings and events are an indication of our commitment to make you NE ASHRAE membership exceedingly valuable to you and your company. I ask your support by being your company’s ASHRAE champion by encouraging membership and participation in our events and technical sessions (member or not!). Contact any of our board members or volunteers with questions. Please be sure to email or post event fliers and schedules to spread the word!

**Also a reminder to start thinking about making reservations to attend the ASHRAE Winter Meeting and Expo January 23-27 in much warmer Orlando, FL. There are currently great deals on airfare and hotels that will not last much longer**
