President's Message:

Welcome to 2020!  I hope everyone found time to celebrate and had a wonderful Holiday Season and Happy New Year with friends and family!  I was able to enjoy some much needed family time over the holidays.  Now I hope everyone is recharged and excited for another great year.

We are continuing our series of strong programs into 2020.  We start the year off with a presentation by our own Alex Skillman on the ASHRAE 62.1 Ventilation Rate Procedure.   He will dig into multi-zone recirculating systems and discuss commonly misunderstood or misapplied terminology, calculation procedures, recommendations, supporting tool availability, and a brief discussion of LEED credit impacts.

We have three other local events coming up I want to make sure everyone is aware of.  On February 19th in Omaha and February 20th in Lincoln we are hosting a CEU hour and Team Trivia Night.  The CEU hour will be followed by a competitive game of team trivia.  The trivia questions will cover a broad range of topics.  Another upcoming educational opportunity will take place at the annual Nebraska Architectural Engineering Conference (NAEC) on March 5th.  This year the conference will be hosted at the Scott Conference Center.

The other event that is coming up is the Nebraska ASHRAE Government Outreach Day.  This is scheduled for Thursday, February 20th and is being put together by our Government Affairs Committee (GAC).  The event will allow ASHRAE volunteers the opportunity to visit with local representatives at the state capital to promote ASHRAE as a resource and to discuss a potential bill to update the Nebraska building codes.  Our GAC committee of Peter Koneck-Wilwerding, Tyler Glesne, James Franks and Jim Butler have put a lot of effort in putting this event together, and I hope we are able to fill all the available volunteer spots.

Also a final reminder that the ASHRAE Winter Meeting and AHRI Expo is about to take place in Orlando, FL from February 1-5.  If you are looking for a chance to get some sun (even though we have had a mild winter so far) it is not too late to take a trip to a warmer part of the country.  If you are planning on attending the conference please try to attend the Region IX Dinner, planned by our own Tyler Glesne, at Uncle Julio’s Mexican from Scratch on Sunday February 2nd.  This includes a Super Bowl Watch Party as well.  Please see the flyer in the newsletter.

I am looking forward to a fun and productive 2020 for the Nebraska Chapter.  We have multiple additional events planned for the upcoming months (social, fundraisers, and philanthropic).  We appreciate the continued support from our members at all of the events.

Sincerely,

Shaun Nienhueser
