I hope everyone had a great Halloween and either gave out or received their fair share of sweets. Now we are already into November and only a have a couple shorts months left in 2018. This is a good time of year to try to slow down and spend time with family and friends to finish out the year and enjoy upcoming Holidays. We also have moved the clocks back this past weekend so hopefully everyone was able to get rested up with the extra hour or sleep, unless you have young kids like me.

I would like to give a big thank you to Alvine Engineering for hosting our meeting last month at their new headquarters building and presenting on the WELL Building Standard. We would like to especially thank our presenters and tour guides, Brandon Rich, Gary Lange and Gary Cooper. It is a great new facility that highlights many aspects of how ASHRAE can affect the built environment.

The excellent programs continue this month as Dr. Lily Wang will be presenting on the affect acoustics, lighting, thermal comfort and air quality have on K-12 schools at our Omaha meeting. This presentation was given to the Lincoln section last month and I have heard great reviews. Dr. Wang is a wonderful presenter and supporter of ASHRAE which we are lucky to have in our Chapter.

The Lincoln section program will have a presentation on Professional Ethics from Karen Stelling. Karen has over 25 years of experience in consulting engineering and is currently a Professor of Practice in the Engineering College at UNL. We look forward to her presentation on ethics that covers the design and construction industries.

I also encourage everyone to think of any potential new members they could bring to an ASHRAE meeting or event as a guest. The best way to spread the word about the opportunities ASHRAE provides is by exposure. We are always looking for talented chapter members to help out or lead committees. This is a great way to get involved in our industry and learn valuable leadership skills.
