President's Message

Dear Nebraska ASHRAE Members,

I just returned home from a wonderful (and record setting!) ASHRAE Winter Conference in sunny Las Vegas, NV. It was great to see so many familiar faces throughout the event. Nearly 70,000 people attended the AHR Expo, which this year covered 500,000 square feet of floor area, and over 3,600 people attended the ASHRAE Conference. What an amazing turnout!

Nominees for the 2017-2018 ASHRAE Board of Directors were announced at the Winter Meeting, and Region IX will again have three members on the Board. Shelia Hayter (Rocky Mountain Chapter) was nominated as President-Elect and Julia Keen (Kansas City Chapter) was nominated as Vice President. Our very own, Tyler Glesne, was nominated as Assistant Regional Chair and will sit on Members Council, where he’ll be one of 18 people who approves motions before they go to the Board of Directors. Congrats Tyler!

Additionally, congratulations to the MCA student branch who was selected to defend their national championship at the Final Four Mechanical Contractors Association of America’s student competition on March 7th. If you are interested in seeing their presentation and providing helpful feedback before their trip, the group will be presenting at the Lincoln Section meeting this month.  Don’t be afraid to ask the tough questions.

Omaha members, please note the change in meeting date this month. We are connecting with MCA for a joint meeting on Tuesday, February 21st at Anthony’s Steakhouse. We’re excited to welcome David Houghton to present “Engineering & Contracting Legal Update.”

Striving to add more family events to our schedule, the YEA committee has planned an event at the Kids Activity Center at Mahoney State Park for Thursday, February 16th from 5-7 pm. Bring your significant other and/or kids to enjoy ice skating and other indoor activities. The cost is very reasonable:  $5 entry to the park, $2/person for Jungle Gym access, and $3/person for ice skate rental.

I hope our chapter members are finding the monthly technical presentations valuable, but we appreciate suggestions on how we can improve our presentations and topic selection. Please feel free to contact myself or Aaron Rasell, aaron.rasell@trane.com, with any suggestions.

Sincerely,

Jessica Errett
