President's Message:

Greetings ASHRAE Members

Welcome from your Nebraska Virtual ASHRAE Chapter.  I hope everyone is doing well in our temporary normal, may it be working from the office/field or trying to teach a math class while on a conference call and walking the dog all at once.  We are continuing our virtual chapter meetings this month.  We do hope to get back to in-person meetings in the fall but we will follow the local government and health department guidelines.

We did have a really good turnout from our virtual meeting in April!  We featured Dr. Stephanie Taylor as she discussed how our indoor environments affect our health.  This presentation does have some specific discussion related to COVID-19. If you were not able to join us last month a recording of the presentation is available on our Chapter website located here.  We also hosted our first Virtual YEA meeting.  A big thanks to the YEA Committee for pulling this together and to Rob Oberg for presenting!  We will have another Virtual YEA Meeting this month.  Check out the details further down in this Newsletter.

We are wrapping up a strong year of programs with a presentation related to UVC Lighting Air and Surface Treatments this month.  David Skelton is a subject matter expert and the Chair of ASHRAE TC-2.9 (Air and Surface Disinfection).  This is the technical committee responsible for writing the handbook chapter (Chapter 62 of the HVAC Application Handbook).  Please join the virtual meeting if you are available.

Speaking of Technical committees.  Did you know all chapters in the ASHRAE handbooks are the responsibility of ASHRAE Technical Committees?  Any ASHRAE member can join a Technical Committee and provide input on the given topic.  I would encourage everyone to join a Technical Committee that interests you.  ASHRAE needs its members to be involved in Technical Committees to continue being the world leading resource on the built environment.  If you want to learn about Technical Committees you can check out their website here.

A couple updates about the Chapter:

Our annual Board of Governors voting has been completed and I am happy to introduce your Board for the 2020-2021 ASHRAE year.

  • ·         Secretary – Aaron Rasell
  • ·         Treasurer – David Kros

Our Annual Golf out is currently on and is scheduled for June 15th, at Iron Horse again.  We do have a backup date of August 24th if we are not able to meet in June.  Please check out the flyer in the Newsletter and consider getting a team signed up.  We will confirm by early June if we are able to stick with the June 15th date or will be moving to the August date.

We are trying to wrap up the Product Directory drive for the chapter.  Please be on the lookout for a last reminder if you have not had a chance to sign your company up to date.  Lastly a reminder that we have also created a Nebraska Chapter Popup Swag sale.  This will give everyone a chance to purchase some swag with the Nebraska Chapter logo from now until the end of April. Please see the flyer in the newsletter for additional details or visit the website here, ASHRAE SWAG Sale.

Sincerely,
